The Trump administration just returned one overdue problem to sender: Carla Hayden, the first female and African-American Librarian of Congress, has been officially fired—and not a moment too soon.
Appointed by Barack Obama in 2016, Hayden made history as the first non-white-male to head the Library of Congress. But instead of preserving the nation’s literary heritage, she treated the role like a social justice podcast with a federal budget.
Before getting cozy in one of the most powerful unelected posts in America (yes, this librarian had control over 173 million items, including the official Twitter archive and every book Congress has ever touched), Hayden ran the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. While there, she made headlines for keeping libraries open during the 2015 riots, saying it was important to provide "safe spaces" for "the community." Translation: let looters cool off with Toni Morrison.
Her doctoral dissertation? A deep dive into censorship and "diverse representation" in public libraries. Her agenda? Using your tax dollars to inject race, gender, and identity politics into every shelf. Under her watch, the Library's acquisitions skewed toward "inclusive narratives" and marginalized voices—code for rewriting history with a rainbow highlighter.
She also served as president of the American Library Association, which, under her leadership, prioritized "equity, diversity, and inclusion" over, you know... actual books. The ALA even declared “Drag Queen Story Hour” a legitimate library service.
Critics say she brought “compassion” and “modernization” to the Library. Real Americans know she brought woke ideology, identity tokenism, and a complete disregard for intellectual neutrality.
But this week, the overdue notice came from the Oval Office. President Trump pulled the plug, ending her DEI reign and sending the clear message: the Library of Congress is for preserving American greatness, not republishing it through a progressive lens.
