BREAKING: New York Bill Would Mandate Biometric Trigger Locks on All Civilian Firearms by 2026

A new bill in New York would require biometric trigger locks on all civilian firearms by 2026. Leak-Social exposes the hidden surveillance risks and compliance penalties no one else is reporting.

A sweeping new bill introduced in the New York State Assembly this week would require all legally owned firearms to be retrofitted with biometric trigger locks by 2026 — a move critics are calling both unconstitutional and logistically impossible.

The bill, titled the Safe Use Firearm Enhancement Act, mandates fingerprint-activated trigger locks on all civilian firearms, with compliance tied to gun license renewals. Under the proposed legislation, failure to install the biometric safety mechanism would be considered a “Class B Technological Noncompliance,” carrying a $5,000 fine per weapon.

Proponents claim the measure is aimed at “modernizing firearm safety” and “ensuring weapons cannot be misused by unauthorized users, including minors.” But gun rights advocates see a more sinister motive.

“This is backdoor confiscation through tech,” said Mark Gellar of the Liberty Arms Coalition. “You either submit your firearm for biometric modification or risk criminal penalties. And when the tech fails — which it will — your right to self-defense fails with it.”

Leak-Social has reviewed early vendor proposal drafts submitted to the state’s Office of Public Safety. Most models require wireless connectivity for firmware updates and contain backdoor override access for “law enforcement emergencies.” The specifications raise questions about tracking, remote disabling, and the role of third-party contractors in operating the infrastructure.

Governor Kathy Hochul has not commented directly on the bill but referred to it as “an exciting evolution in responsible gun ownership” during a recent press conference.

Mainstream outlets remain quiet. The Washington Post published a lifestyle piece today titled, “Why Cozy, Gun-Free Spaces Are Trending in Brooklyn.”
